First-time homebuyers can get financial help

(Floridatoday) - Danny Richards is looking forward to closing on his first home this month, with a little help from Brevard County.

The lifelong Indialantic resident is on track to receive $25,000 in first-time homebuyer assistance for a three-bedroom, two-bath house in Satellite Beach. While many buyers are hesitating to commit to mortgages because of economic uncertainty, he came to the opposite conclusion.

“I’ve been watching the market and the economy and realized it’s a buyer’s market,” said Richards, 22.

For low and moderate buyers with a similar outlook, state and county governments might have some financial assistance. The agencies sponsor programs that offer grants or loans to first-time buyers, defined as those who haven’t owned a home in the past three years.
