(mlive.com) - The Muskegon County real estate market is beginning to show signs that the months-long struggle may be easing.
Phones are ringing at local real estate offices, more people are showing up at open houses and “sold” signs are popping up on more properties.
Sales of housing units in Muskegon County rose more than 20 percent in March 2009 compared to March 2008, growing from 132 to 165.
“I am hearing about a great deal of pent-up demand,” said Dale Zahn, CEO of the West Michigan Lakeshore Association of Realtors. “It may be starting to bust out.”
Real estate agents in Muskegon County, Ottawa County and the northern part of Allegan County, which make up the association’s coverage area, are “experiencing increased activity and hopefully that bodes well for the spring,” Zahn said.
Though more houses are selling, prices haven’t rebounded. For March, in the Lakeshore area, sale prices are down 20 to 25 percent compared to a year ago.
